Peeling and cutting potatoes is a tedious and time-consuming job, which made the product more expensive, but when the mechanical peeler was invented in 1920 everything changed, reducing the workload and making the product cheaper. French fries are no longer a unique dish, but a popular food sold by the kilo all over the world. In Europe, the acceptance of French fries is very high and they have become the most popular mass food. Along with popcorn, it has become the most consumed product in cinemas, theatres and public events such as sport, without forgetting its contribution to private gatherings as the star of the aperitif.
