Traditionally, most vermouth producers are located in the province of Tarragona. (Yzaguirre, Miró…), however, the production of vermouth has been spreading proportionally to the boom of its consumption throughout the country with particular characteristics in each of the regions. There are already many manufacturers all over the country, such as Alicante, La Rioja, Navarra, Burgos, Madrid, Galicia, and more recently in Mallorca. In the same way, the production parameters are constantly changing, and it is common to find vermouth based on premium wines, such as Tempranillo from La Rioja or Albariño from Galicia. There are even cask-conditioned drinks that are more than a year old, such as Izaguirre Reserva de Rioza or Martínez la Cuesta, and even Fino de Jerez such as Lustau and La Copa.
In 2015, Túnel realized the importance of the aperitif and started making white, red and rosé vermouth under the brand Muntaner. Antoni Nadal Destil Leries is one of the producers of Túnel vermouth, which in 2019 produced 25,000 bottles of the three varieties. Their work was recognised in 2018, when Muntaner White Vermouth won the gold medal at the International Wine Challenge 2018 in London .
Muntaner from the Antonio Nadal distillery has fully established itself in the island market, and its vermouth contains twelve macerated vegetable skins. They have achieved both white and red changes, with very good balance and flavor. The taste is pleasant and aromatic, made from white grape skins (various local grapes).
The vermouth Muntaner Negre is made from white Premsal grapes produced in Mallorca, soaked in wormwood, bitter orange peel, lemon peel, cloves, juniper, green cardamom, elderflower, fennel and other herbs for 40 days, starry sky, camomile, rose petals, juniper berries, raisins and plums (the last two will be used as natural pigments). It is not necessary to add more sugar than the juice itself, and the result is a mahogany-coloured vermouth with orange sparkles, with a warm and pleasant taste. The palate is very balanced and delicious, with strong aromas of herbs, spices and plums.
